3.2 Daily Scheduling Principles

Updated on

After weekly scheduling, the next step in the WEM Process is Daily Scheduling.  Before getting to this point, several things should have happened.

Unless it is break-in work, the Task should have been assigned a Job Plan:  either from a PM/PdM Tasks at generation, or as a Reusable Job Plan for MRCT or MOTH and FM Tasks.

This will ensure that all of the criteria for your planned metric are met:  There will be two or more steps, a set duration, and skillset(s) assigned.  Additionally, there may be parts assigned and attachments or links.

As you may remember, Job Plans can be "associated' to equipment.  This allows you to quickly and easily assign a job plan and using the Planning Wizard.

Having a complete Job Plan from the get-go makes it easy to move the task through the scheduling process without having to adjust/add skillsets.

Before being able to schedule, two more things have to be in place.

1. Scheduling periods must be created in the control center and must exist for the week you are trying to schedule.

2. Skillsets must exist for each technician at your site.  These are also set in the control center.

Remember, that for weekly capacity, the goal is to schedule to 100% of crew capacity by skillset.  Doing this will mean that you have the appropriate number of tasks to populate the daily scheduling queue.

3. In addition to what was already planned in the weekly schedule, you may have 'break-in' tasks.

Remember, Priority 1 break-in tasks will break the daily schedule, while P2 break-in tasks breaks the weekly schedule.

4. The goal remains the same.  Schedule each technician to 100% of their capacity.

Remember, this doesn't mean that the Technician will finish 100% of the work, it just means that is the amount to schedule him/her to each day.

5. For the Technicians, all work that has been scheduled will show up in their "My Work" view for the day.  This should be their one-stop shop for information on what needs to be completed for the day.

If techs are only marked inactive from a team they will still show up on the daily schedule board.
