3.7 Using the Part Group Screen

Updated on

Steps in the screenshots correspond to the numbers in the headings.

A new  field called "Complexity" has been added to rate the Material Groups on a scale of 1-5 with 1 being most complex and 5 being least complex.  People with the Sourcing, ADMIN and IT APP Support will be able to access and change this Complexity rating from the Part Group screen.  The primary reason that Complexity has been added is to help support commodity-based purchasing.

The Material Group/Commodity Group must be Active (Active checkbox checked) or you will not be able to set a Complexity value.

1. From the Main Menu, choose Inventory > Admin > Part Group.

2. Another way to get to the screen is to type Part Group into the system search in the upper right corner and click on the tab below.

In our example, we are going to set up a complexity value of "2" for Bearings.  This is just an example.

3. Find the Material Group Code Value For Bearings.

4. Ensure that the Active Checkbox is checked.

5. Enter 2 in the Complexity field.

6. Click Save.

7. Go to Inventory > Parts.

8. Expand the red chevron.

9. Click on the Groupings tab.  Go to the Group field and choose Bearings from the drop-down.

10. Click the green magnifying glass.

11. The Commodity Group is displayed in center column of the header.

Complexity is not displayed on this screen, but it is being driven from the Part Group Screen.

In the future, when we are using commodity-based purchasing, the requisition will route to the buyer who handles the items with the highest complexity level.
