3.6 What do I need to know about Alternate Part Numbers?

Updated on

Steps in the screenshots correspond to the numbers in the headings.

Alternate Part Numbers are not site-specific.  They apply to all sites who carry those parts in their stock.  The Purchasing Group has decided that these parts are so identical in specifications and performance that they are virtually interchangeable, so they list the "Alternate Part Number" on the part record for each of the parts.  The only roles that can add alternate part numbers to the part record are Admin and Sourcing roles.

1. To see if there is an Alternate Part Number listed for a specific part, from the Main Menu, go to Inventory > Parts.

2. Enter the Part Number in the search field and click the green magnifying glass.

3. The Part Record will load.

4. If an Alternate Part Number exists, it will be listed on that lower tab.  You will see a number in parentheses indicating how many Alternate Part Numbers there are.

5. Click on the lower tab to see the information on that part.

6. If you were to look up the other part, you would see the other part listed as an alternate as well.

If you happen to stock BOTH parts at your site, the combined stock total of the two part numbers will be considered for your Min/Max, because, again, the company considers these parts to be interchangeable.
