1.7 What is the difference between the Monthly reports in Power Bi?

Updated on

Steps in the screenshots correspond to the numbers in the headings.

It is important that you understand the difference between the Monthly Reports available in Power BI.  There are several different Monthly Options and each will give you different results - based on the filtering.

If you have a consumer license, you will access the FMS Metrics Reports through the Shared with Me option.  If you have a Professional license, you can access them through your site workspace.  Either way, the information is basically the same.

1. Log into Power BI.  Click on Shared with Me and load the FMS Metrics Reports.  This will bring you to the Home Page.

2. Click on the Monthly Reports Tile to see all of the options available.

3. This next screen allows you to select the basic filtering options for the report.

This is basically just a different layout to take you to the same pages and charts you used to access through Reports in your Site Workspace.

3.1. Monthly is the report that most sites use as a default.  It contains Machine and Sublocation and covers all equipment criticalities.

3.2. Monthly Critical 1: Machine & Sublocation, Equipment Criticality 1.

3.3. Monthly Critical 1-2: Machine & Sublocation, Equipment Criticalities 1-2.

3.4. Monthly Critical 1-3: Machine & Sublocation, Equipment Criticalities 1-3.

3.5. Monthly Critical 2: Machine & Sublocation, Equipment Criticality 2.

3.6. Monthly - Facilities - Facilities only, All Equipment Criticalities

3.7. Monthly MFTDS Critical 1&2- Machine, Facilities, Tool & Die, Sublocation, Equipment Criticalities 1-2.

3.8. Monthly MFTDS - Overall- Machine, Facilities, Tool & Die, Sublocation, All Equipment Criticalities.

3.9. Monthly - Tool and Die - Tool and Die only, All Equipment Criticalities.

4. Once you have selected one of the tiles, you will be taken to the list of options that fall under that setup.

We have chosen the Monthly tile (Machine and Sublocation - All Criticalities), and now we see all the options available.

5. Click to select the report you want to see.

The screenshot for the proactive report is shown below.

A. The first panel (Trend Chart) shows the date range.

B. The second panel (Pareto) shows the data by Asset ID.

C. The 3rd panel is called the Card.  The Card gives the summary information for the panel.

What changes, from report to report, are the filters.  This affects the results you see on the charts.

D. This report contains all criticality.

E. This report is filtered to pull back only Machine Type and Sublocation as the Equipment Group.

This means that Tool and Die and Facility work is not included.

F. With a Monthly report, you are only going to see a complete month's full of data.  This report gives you last month's data, and then the rolling 12 month's history.

If your site is new to EFP or Power BI, the history will build until you have 13 month's of data, and then it will start to roll.

If you are building your PowerPoint presentation for the Customer Metrics Meeting, you may end up using charts from a number of different reports.

As a best practice, add all the pages from the Monthly Report, then move on to the Monthly Critical 1 and so on.

You will only have to do this when you are originally building the deck.  When you are refreshing the deck to update the slides, Power BI Pro Tiles is will be able to pull from a number of different reports at once.
