6.1 How do I get access to Power BI and Power BI Tiles Pro for my Monthly Metrics Presentation?

Updated on

Steps in the screenshots correspond to the numbers in the headings.

There are two types of licenses for Power BI.  The vast majority of sites will have and will use the "consumer" license.  A consumer license allows you to access files that have been shared with you and build and refresh your Monthly Metrics deck.

You don't need to request a license for a consumer license.  You will simply enter your Microsoft credentials to log-in.  You may still want to put in a Self-Service Portal request so that you have access to the site workspace -- especially if you need owner/admin access.  Owner/admin access will allow you to make changes to reports and save a copy.  With a consumer license, this copy cannot be shared with anyone else...so, depending on your needs, it may be something you want to reach out to the FMS System Support Team.

If you find that you need a customized report, you should reach out to the FMS System Support Team.  They will evaluate your request, and will either 1- create the report for you or 2-teach you how to do it.

For those of you who need to create data on a regular basis that needs to be shared out to other members of the team, you may need a Pro license.

  • If a Pro license is requested, it must be approved by not only your manager, but also IT and FMS System Support.
  • The reason why -- we want to make sure that Pro licenses only go to people who are creating new reports or datasets on a regular basis.
