7.8 Mean Time to Repair (MTTR) - ATS Standard

Updated on

Mean Time to Repair: The average time needed to restore an asset to its full operational capabilities after a failure. (SMPR Best Practices 4th Edition Section 3.5.2)

The standard units are in hours.

Mean Time to Repair is calculated by the following formula:

The Trend Chart displays the average repair time, in hours, by month for the past 13 months.

The Pareto Chart displays the top assets having the worst MTTR during the previous 6-month period. Assets listed on the Pareto chart may be good candidates to perform additional analysis to determine the types and magnitude of the failures that are occurring. Look for repeat failures to target Root Cause Analysis efforts toward improving this metric.

This standard chart will also have a section for action items. This section will identify the actions, owners, and due dates for action plans that will be executed to improve performance. The development of the action item section should be coordinated by the P/S and jointly developed by the Team Leads, Site Supervisors, and the Site Manager. The Site Manager is ultimately responsible for the completion, quality, and conformance to the action items identified.
