6.2 How do I import Power BI Charts into PowerPoint using Power BI Tiles Pro?

Updated on

If you are updating your PowerPoint to accommodate the new FMS Metrics Reporting layout structure, you will need to use the Bookmarks panel.  This will require you to update the slides one at a time.  If you do not have time to do this yourself, please reach out to FMSSystemSupport for assistance.

Steps in the screenshots correspond to the numbers in the headings.

Power BI Pro Tiles is a different program that Power BI.  It is an add-on to PowerPoint that allows you to import graphics out of Power BI into presentations.  Please contact the Help Desk to have them install the program for you.

You do not need to submit a My-E request to get Power BI Pro Tiles installed -- that is only for getting Power Bi Access.  Simply call the Help Desk and they will do it for you.

1. In PowerPoint, open your site metrics master deck or the Site Template from the FMS Metrics Dashboard.

If this is the first time you are building the deck, you will not need any other slides.

The rest will be imported using the Power BI Tiles Pro app.

3. Click on the Power BI Tiles Pro Tab.  If necessary, please log in using your ATS Credentials.

4. Choose Add Power BI Visual.

5. Select your site from the Workspace options.

You can use the Find field and filter the workspace to refine the search.

This is one of the times you will actually use a three-digit site number verses a four-digit site number.

If you see more than one workgroup,  you will always use the workspace that begins with the word "Site".

6. Click on the plus sign to expand the reports.

If for some reason there is no plus sign next to your site name (as shown in #5), right click on the Site name and choose Reload Group.  A progress bar will keep you updated.

7. Click the plus sign again to expand to see the Report Headings.  You will be working from the FMS Metrics Reports.

8. Check your settings in the Power BI Tiles Pro header.

  • One Per Slide should be checked.
  • You can choose to begin with a new slide or insert over a slide that you already have.
  • Hyperlinks can be set.
  • Leave the height and width at 100%

Click on the FMS Metrics Report to begin accessing your tiles. As these reports are separated by bookmarks, you will be using the bookmark pane on the far right of the toolbar.

10. The bookmarks panel will slide out next to the filters panel.

11. Click the drop-down arrow next to the where you are wanting to pull the report from.

We are going to start building the deck with the Critical 1 Availability Tile.

12. Click the report you want to use in the Bookmark Panel.

13. You must choose the Save Selected bookmark in the header or the proper chart will not be loaded.

14. Once the individual page has loaded, the Add Selected button in the header will become active.

Remember, you can only add bookmarked pages one at a time.

15. A message appears telling you that your visuals are rendering to your PowerPoint deck.

16. The selected charts are loaded into the deck.

Arrange them in the order in which you want to present them.

17. Save your deck.  File>Save As.  Include your month in the file name.  The charts in this deck are not dependent on the internet connectivity.  There is no need to save as images or to make a duplicate copy.

18. The deck will update with new tiles by simply clicking the refresh button under the Power BI Pro Tiles Tab.

The file can be distributed as necessary.  The recipient does not need Power BI Tiles Pro to be able to view the charts.
