Tech Utilization: The amount of time a Technician spends on work orders compared to the hours listed on their payroll.
Unutilized Labor Hours: The difference between payroll hours and the hours logged on tasks.
The Tech utilization measurement is calculated by the following formula:
The Trend Chart displays the Tech Utilization percentage along with the sum of payroll labor hours and unutilized labor hours by month for the past 13 months.
The Pareto Chart displays the top technicians with the worst utilization during the previous 6-month period. To get the most tech utilization out of the Site’s workforce, evaluate the Site’s planning and scheduling effectiveness. In a world-class organization, maintenance activities are planned and scheduled fully. Doing so ensures that each technician has a full day’s work and that little time is wasted looking for parts, tools and documentation. Preventive maintenance routes are configured to minimize travel time and are “load-leveled” to match work requirements with net available workforce. The maintenance workforce will perform work that get gets inspected, so frontline supervisors must monitor work performance directly. With effective planning and supervision tech utilization will rise to the world-class level. ( http://www.plantservices.com/articles/2003/87/ )
This standard chart will also have a section for action items. This section will identify the actions, owners, and due dates for action plans that will be executed to improve performance. The development of the action item section should be coordinated by the P/S and jointly developed by the Team Leads, Site Supervisors, and the Site Manager. The Site Manager is ultimately responsible for the completion, quality, and conformance to the action items identified.
