7.25 Editing Steps on a Job Plan in the Planner Portal

Updated on

Steps in the screenshots correspond to the numbers in the headings.

One of the easiest things to do in the Planner Portal is to edit steps on a Job Plan.  The design is very intuitive, and messages at the bottom of the screen will let you know if you missed anything.

If no steps are on the Job Plan, you will see that message, and a button will be present to start the process.

There are 7 Columns that make up the Steps screen.

In our example, we have copied a Job Plan that was originally from another site, and we want to make sure that the steps are correct for our site.

1. Use the filters to search for the Job Plan you wish to edit.

2. Click on the three vertical dots at the end of the line and choose Edit Job Plan.

3. The Job Plan opens to the Summary screen in the Edit mode.  Click on Steps.

4. If there are any errors present, you will be alerted to that fact by a message at the bottom right of the screen.  (In this case, Step 5 is missing a Name.) You will not be able to save the template without fixing the error.

5. Double click on the name field and enter an appropriate name.

6. We also added more information to the Report Step.

  • Anytime you edit some of the text that you have entered, you need to  double click to go into the text box, and click to enter the edit mode.
  • Make your changes and they will automatically be saved when you move to the next step.

Remember, if you are working with Internet Explorer, you must first click anywhere in the Step Grid before entering a new step.  If you are trying to make an edit to an existing step, and do not click in the step grid before adding a new step, the change will not be saved.

7. The Save button is enabled.  Click that.

8. A blue bar tells you the transaction is processing.

9. A confirmation message tells you that the Job Plan Grid updated successfully.

10. Events have been tracked in the History Screen.  Click on History.

11. The Sort Criteria defaults to most current on top.

12. The history will show you what was changed, by whom, and what the old and new values are.

Steps can be added or edited at anytime in the process.  The history tab will track all changes throughout.

Please read below for a Known Issue:

While editing the Step Name field, if you type a second hyphen or a hash symbol (#) and click any New Step button then the Step Name field is no longer able to be edited by double clicking it. Instead the text is highlighted. More confusing is after to double clicked and selected the Step Name text the next mouse click on any other step starts editing the step.  This behavior is unexpected and will cause confusion and frustration, as it is happening in all browsers.  It is also possible that it is happening with other character combinations.

Work Arounds:

There are two work arounds for this issue.

  1. Click outside the field to stop editing before clicking New Step. OR
  2. Click Save to save the job plan and the Step Text is able to be edited again. Note that all steps will have to have a Name and Text before the Save button will be enabled.
  • We found that clicking outside of the Step Name field works every time regardless of the number of hyphens or the hash symbol.
