3.7 When does it make sense to work in the Work Module vs. Planner Portal?

Updated on

Whether you do the majority of your work in the Work Module or the CLIENT is dependent on a number of factors:  the size and structure of your team, your Proactive/Reactive percentage, the experience level of your staff, and much more.

Portal

There are some things that are easier to do in the Work Module.  These include:

1. Creating a Work Order/Task.

2. Adding a follow-up task.

3. Canceling a task.

4. Changing Equipment/Sublocation on a Task.

5. Completing a Task/Work Order.

6. Reviewing a Work Order/Task.

7. Accessing the Reporting Server.

You should always run reports from the Reporting Server link in the Portal as this doesn't impact the performance of the system.  Additionally, some fields are not available in the CLIENT version of the reports.

There are some functions that can ONLY be done in the Work Module.

8. Re-Opening a Task and sending it back to the Technician WITH COMMENTS.

9. Leaving feedback on a job plan.

10. Adding skillsets to job plans.

11. Creating Production Schedules.

12. Creating Site Specific Event Notifications.

13. Managing Sub-Locations (Creating New and Disabling Inactive)

Planner Portal

There are a number of things that should be done in the Planner Portal.

14. To count toward your Planned Metric, the Task must have a duration, a date planned, and at least one step added.  All of this is done from the Tasks view of the Planner Portal using the Planning Wizard.

15. When moving through the stages of planning a non-proactive task, the Planning Wizard is also your best bet.

The Planning Wizard has been designed to assign Task Status and Task Status Reasons automatically as steps in the process are completed.

16. Job Plans (previously referred to as Task templates) are all managed through the Planner Portal.

This includes all functionality:

  • Creating
  • Editing
  • Copying
  • Assigning Sub-types
  • Assigning Skillsets
  • Regulatory
  • Operator Performed Maintenance
  • Managing Steps
  • Implementing feedback
  • Adding Duration and Required Skillsets
  • Adding Meters
  • Adding Parts
  • Attachments and Links
  • Assigning to Equipment (and Models)
